The Retroids Videolympics Scoreboard presents our ninth official online contest - ANYTHING GOES APRIL SCOREPALOOZA. Any genre console game in which you can put up a score or time is eligible for the scoreboard in April, and the prize is HUGE this month—a RetroN 5 video game system! Since this is the month we will be doing LIVE score chasing at the Midwest Gaming Classic show on April 12th and 13th, players who put up a score at the show are also eligible to win months prize. Entries are of course eligible throughout the month by submitting a score done through Twitch.tv or YouTube as well. This contest will end on April 30, 2014.

The darling of Kickstarter — the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset is no longer the indie developers' dream it once was. Facebook announced that it would be purchasing Oculus VR, the makers of Oculus Rift for $2 billion. The transaction is expected to close in the second quarter of 2014. It was once touted strictly as a gaming device, but CEO of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg said Facebook plans to use its technology for media, communications, and other forms of entertainment; touting VR as having the potential to be the next great computing evolution. NASA is awarding $35,000 to citizen asteroid hunters who participate in the Asteroid Data Hunter Challenge, a contest aimed at helping NASA and Planetary Resources initiate a better way to detect asteroids. If you have a penchant for coding and algorithms, this challenge is for you!
The first image of Amazon's rumored set-top box controller has been uncovered. Forbes' Paul Tassi describes the gamepad as "uninspired." It's said that this might be a prototype and that the final controller design has yet to be determined. Even though Amazon's set-top box won't fully focus on its gaming abilities, it's good to know they are at least supporting gaming.
Just announced— Jack Tretton is officially stepping down from his position as president and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America. A PR Newswire release stated this was a mutual agreement between Tretton and SCEA, and as of March 31, 2014 he will no longer be with the company. Stepping into the role of President and CEO of SCEA will be Shawn Layden who is currently Executive Vice President and COO of Sony Network Entertainment International. This will be effective April 1, 2014.
