-Yo! So, I finally got my ammended taxes from two years ago back several months earlier than expected, with interest on top of it. I realized this would probably be the only oppurtunity in awhile where I had the expendable income to get a PS3. I checked literally all over town to see if any stores still had the 80gig Motorstorm bundles left, but unfortunately everyplace was sold as I guess they're making room for the Metal Geat Solid 4 bundles due in June. Both Gamestops, Target, WalMart, Best Buy, and Kmart and Sears were all sold out.
A couple weeks ago I was in Pamida looking for birthday gift ideas because my family said they had some good deals on furniture, when going in there for my first time in a couple years (Pamida is a smaller department store chain in the midwest, usually found in smaller towns) I was a little surprised to see they had a videogame section. They didn't have 80gigs, but for whatever reason, and to my surprise, they still had the 60gig units that haven't been manufactured since summer of last year. I went into Gamestop a couple days later to pick up Untold Legends, and one of the other Gamestop employees, Freddy, was there on his day off, I told him how they still had 60gig units, and he damn near bolted out the door to get one. Then I get a call from him shortly thereafter saying how he got their last 60 gig, and on top of that there was a promotion at Pamida I was uninformed of where you receive a free controller with a PS3, so I went right back to get my free controller.
As far as games I got on PS3 so far, like I said above I picked up Untold Legends, I know it scored around slightly above average in most reviews, but I'm a sucker for those hack 'n slash games, and I liked SOE's previous Champions games on PS2, so I'll take the chance for $17 used. Chris had the free copy of Motorstorm with his PS3 bundle, and he loathes the game so he sold me his practically new copy for $20, additonally I picked up MLB 08: The Show, since a lot of people on VGevo are starting up a league. I use to play in the old XSN leagues for NFL Fever and NBA Inside Drive, and while they were a pain to maintain, they were still a ton of fun to compete in. Finally, I picked up F1 for PS3 since is was on clearence at work for $13. I asked around the knowledgable PS3 owners at VGevo about it, and they highly recommended it, especially for $13.
Target still had 3 other copies of F1, and I wanna claim responsibility for them all being sold, and I didn't even try to persuade the game on people. My coworker Shawn owns a PS3, and when I was told him I decided chance the game at that price, and I even told him how I still have yet to play it to see if the game's any good, he decided to pick up a copy too for that price. Shawn then told another coworker Jamie of F1's clearence price, and Jamie is one of the most hesitant and last minute game buyers I know, and after hearing no reports of how the game actually plays, he too went out and picked up a copy for himself. Finally, when I went to meet up with Chris to pick up Motorstorm, he asked me what other games I got for PS3, when I told him about chancing F1 cause of it on clearence, he responded "Dammit Dale, stop making me want to go out and buy more games" and I wasn't even trying to persuade him on it! I still have yet to pop the game in!
That long spiel aside, I barely have had that much time to play the PS3 much since I got it at the beginning of the work week. I installed the latest firmware, and checked out some of the videos and demos on the store available, I don't see the big hub-bub about the store's online-style interface, looks fine to me, right on par with marketplace, even found it easier to find game content for older games than on Marketplace. Friends list works fine, and the XMB bar has grown on me a lot more than I recall it in the PSP days. I have still yet to play any of the games I own, I set up MLB 08 to sign on with its online service, Sports Connect and entered in my profile info in prep for the league starting up, and I did play Motorstorm before, I'll keep everyone posted on how the games turn out. All I did play so far was a demo for Super Rub-a-Dub, best game name ever, but the ducks aren't cute enough, they desperately need shades!
-Before I got the PS3, on my last set of days off I met up with Scott and we did our first gaming marathon in awhile. We knocked out a lot of gigs in Rock Band, and got the achievement for clearing out the gigs in two citites so far. Then we continued our co-op Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance campaign for the first time since September....way too long. We actually played that for a good several hours straight until four in the morning, until we beat that damn Orb boss. Very good times, I can't wait to pick that up again. That marathon led me to pick up Untold Legends in hopes of plowing through that game next.
-I got Lost in from GameFly, only made a couple hours progress so far, and will probably play a little more after finishing this blog. It's not much of an actual game, more of a puzzle/adventure experience. And that's a good thing if you're a fan of the show like myself. It's cool reliving the Lost experience as one of the Oceanic survivor extras. Sucks that they couldn't get the entire cast to lend their voices, some of the sound-a-likes are good, but others *cough*Locke*cough* are pure pain to listen to. So far though, initial impressions are promising for a rare decent tv licensed game.
-It's a little late, but I finally compiled the audio we recorded while on the road back home from MGC, which yielded our latest podcast. Took forever to edit, listen at your own risk - http://www.vgpub.com/pubcast/vgp-ep56.mp3
-That's all for now, later!
