ID:	2047My long-time canine companion, Mooka had to be put to sleep last evening. She was a 14 year old Rat Terrier. I named her Mooka because when I was in the pet store and asked for her to be let out of her cage so I could see her, I started calling her a "moo-cow," because of her white body with splotches of black...kind of like a dairy cow. She wasn't a dog that did tricks (as the blog title might imply), but she earned the title "trick-dog" (aka Trickman's dog) when she appeared in an issue of EGM2 magazine, particularly EGM2 #50...the transitional issue that brought about the new name and design for the magazine, Expert Gamer. This was a fun issue, as the staff had a bunch of rented costumes for a photo session that would later be superimposed into the issue, pitting staffers against one another in the ultimate fake fighting game, XG Fighter Gold: Hyper Drive Alpha Super Cheezy. I played a hidden, unlockable character (of course), and my costume consisted of a tall top hat and a shiny silver sequin jacket over a dress shirt, pants and a bow tie. In one of the fake game's screen shots, Mooka pops up on the lower-right hand side of the screen, in typical MK2 "toasty!" fashion. She is mentioned as having a Dog Chomp move in a previous game (also fake) called EGM: The Mega Bout. It was fun to share a bit of gaming history with her, and poke a bit of fun at the myriad of fighting titles that were prevalent at the same time.

Thanks for sharing the spotlight with me, little Mooka. You'll be missed.

Terry, I'm sorry to hear about Mooka. As you know, my 14 year old dog passed away a few weeks ago also and no matter how much you know their time is coming, you can never really prepare for it. Sounds like Mooka had a great long life with you (especially being in EGM2!). She was lucky to have you as an owner!

Sad to hear Terry. There's no other animal companion like a faithful dog.

Sad, man. I lost my dog too a couple of years ago. He was an alsatian, but the woman was totally impressed, because she'd never seen one live so long. She approximated his age to be at least 20 years old. Man, I miss that dog, so much.

His name was Dougie... Dougie the Dog.

Sorry to hear about your loss. I have to say though, I'm floored that I even met your dog and didn't realize that she shares a name with one of my cats, a name that my wife and I agreed upon long before we ever got a cat and we have no idea the true origin of. I even named my Nintendog Mooka before we had the cat like 5 or 6 years ago.

Our whole family, including Mooka Loosen, express our condolences on your loss.

Wow, I guess her name wasn't as unique as I thought. I never knew she shared a name with your cat. That's pretty cool! Other derivatives of her name throughout the years have been The Moo, Moo-cha-la and Mooey.
