Episode 14 - Gran Tangent

WOW! We managed to come in under an hour this episode. We cover what we've been up to. Talk briefly about the Gran Turismo 6 announcement. We also touch on the EA news related to online passes. Along the way we get lost on a few tangents from Toe Jame and Earl to constructing a man cave and a bunch of stuff in between including Legend of Zelda, Mega Man, deactivating Facebook.

Hello again!I think it's about time for another Weekly What are you Playing This Week Thread! Especially considering how well last week went!

So what have you been playing, what are you playing now and what are you planning to play this weekend? And do you like those genres or are you phasing them out this gen?

As for me, I haven't actually played any games this week so far O_o But I have been playing with Twine, which is a tool for making interactive stories. It's pretty cool and it's so easy a child could use it to make a game. In fact me and my 6 year old nephew DID make one.

Got fluky and scored this gem yesterday through a cunning Steam code trade!

More people need to play Super House of Dead Ninjas, so good!

I'm way sure people around here will especially appreciate this one.

I came across this article today, and thought it might be of interest to some folks here. Its about 'Polybius', a psuedo-arcade game that supposedly had limited release in Portland in 1981, and was quickly removed after it had weird side-effects pn players and was visited by strange Men In Black. Sounds like silly urban legend stuff, right? but apparently there's more truth to the story then you'd expect:

Might be worth checking out for some of you.
Metroidvania / Gradius hybrid.
You can move in and out of your ship at will (or so it seems) and it plays like a Metroidvania game with some Contra like combat on the ground.

I backed it with the $15 amount.
Apparently it will get you the DRM free PC version as well as 1 console version (or Steam) if there are console versions released.
The console versions (Ouya, PSN, Wii U in that order) are available if he reaches some of the stretch goals.

The Ouya version seems likely, but the others really don't.

sounds a little odd I know... but this can go for anything this gen that may be new to you that you didn't experience in previous gens.

Maybe it's a new genre of game?
New visual style?
New control scheme?
Whatever.

Similarly, what were you into in previous generations that you aren't into now.

Hey guys, Myself and RayG briefly talked about the possibility of looking for another writer for our site, stupidlyepic.com. Unlike most dedicated games sites, It's 99% me that does the articles. If RayG has a cartoon to post or something, he'll post it - but otherwise, the general handling and writing of the site is pretty much all down to me - which ends up making it less of a "site" and more like a general gaming blog.

It's not that I don't have time to write, I'll keep writing at the pace I always have - which has always been "If I see something I'm interested in, I'll post about it." or "If I have a game to review, I'll review it." Unfortunately, that comes at the price of maybe not posting for a while due to a lack of things that interest me, or having nothing to review. However, if we had another writer, who could bring their own unique interests and reviews of games to the site, then the site would be updated more regularly, which would in turn mean more readers which means more purpose to the writing. It can all get a bit samey with me writing everything as well, which is why we'd like to reach out to anyone who has a passion for games and talking about them.

A few things you should know though - they're kinda obvious but still; This isn't a job, you don't get paid. This is just a writing position for a site about gaming. Which is something you hopefully have a passion for. Your political and religious views are strictly forbidden subjects on our site. Keep it on topic about the games - we're not looking for the type of thing where we talk about how the gender, sexuality or faith of the individual is abused in a gaming context or whether someone's views on something are right or wrong. Keep that on your twitter or personal blog - tabloid journalism isn't what we're about. All we're looking for is well-written articles about games you're interested in or reviews of games. We're not Kotaku or Fox news.

That's not to say you aren't allowed to write opinion pieces, but please write them based on games Like talk about their message, or music, or art style or something. Not about how bigoted something is that someone else reported. Our site just isn't the place for getting all political and sanctimonious with the writing.

If you think you have what we're looking for, PM me and I'll get in touch. It would probably be a good idea to show us what you can do, like something you've written before - Just to give us an idea of what we can expect from you before we settle on something concrete.
