I finally got a chance to finish up the changes I had planned for my game room this Labor Day, and I figured it might be fun to post some updated pics tonight.
The majority of my time has been spent building a few new shelving units including a closet organizer of all things, using more collectibles as decorations, as well as just simply spreading things out a bit more. There are actually not that many more games than what I had collected last time I took pics, but the way things spread out, it certainly seems bigger.
Anyway, here goes...
The "long" shot, taken from one edge of the room looking towards the other.
Up top you can see some of the extra "decoration" that I've added. A Gears of War lancer and poster, Super Metroid poster, a kinda rare "World of Nintendo" retail sign, and then of course games.
Pictured games include (left-down-right-down) Saturn, Neo Geo AES, Neo Geo MVS, PlayStation, Neo Geo Pocket Color, Neo Geo CD, and SuperVision at the very bottom.
Kind of an angled view of the next section. Decorations include an Xbox 360 sign from one of their early retail shippers as well as the original Xbox "coming in Fall 2001" standee. Those standees were in most large retailers before the original Xbox was released, and it was one of two items I scored from a local EB once the system had been released.
Pictured games (above the original Xbox standee) are Master System, Atari 2600, Intellivision, Lynx, Xbox, Sega CD, Gizmondo, and PC games.
Another angle of the last shot.
Pictured games to the left of the Xbox display are, well, just Nintendo DS in addition to what I said last picture.
All of those shelves at the bottom of this picture are new. I picked them because they were short enough to cover the table I am using to prop the shelves up behind them, but not so tall that they cover the games on that table. Decorations here include the Platinum Club Nintendo hat from 2009, and a bunch of figurines I've (generally) found on clearance some place, hehe. Finally, you'll notice a bottle and a can. One is an Atari bottled water from E3 and the other is a can of Coke with Lineage 2 on it, also from E3.
Pictured games start with 3DO at the top-left, N-Gage, Wii, PlayStation 3, Sega 32X, Nintendo 64, Game Gear, movie DVD's, Dreamcast, and Pippin just below that.
Decorations here include rather common Master Chief helmet, a Legend of Dragoon "movie" poster, and the Gears of War 2 remote control tank.
In this pic you'll also notice all of those white drawers stacked on top of one another. That's where I keep quite a few of my system accessories like controllers, cables, etc.
Pictured games include Xbox 360 in the center, and Atari Jaguar just beneath it.
A better look at some of the figurines. That's Tekken, Soul Calibur, StarCraft, Street Fighter, some anime I honestly forget the name of, Metal Gear Solid, and R-Type.
Those MGS figurines I had to stick onto a board because none of them came with any plates to hold them.I have a couple more figurines besides these, but I didn't like them as much so they're hiding in a box beneath the pool table.
Here's the first look at part of the closet system I picked up to go around and over the spinning shelves I picked up previously. This was critical to me because I didn't like how I could stand everything pretty high but couldn't do anything with the swivel units. I think this worked out pretty nicely.
I'll come back to this part again later since I took my pictures a bit out of order...
The systems that I play the most have their accessories kept in these shelves-on-wheels that I usually keep around the back of the play area. So for example you'll see 360, PS3, Dreamcast, etc. on the right, and a drawer system on the left that includes things like Wii. In the middle you'll see that I'm starting to bulk up on arcade sticks. I wonder why...
Closer look at some of the shelves... That's (top-to-right) Xbox, Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, lots of cables, Dreamcast, PlayStation 3, and GameCube.
A closer look at some of the arcade sticks. I generally keep the arcade sticks I use a lot in a tub and the ones I use every blue moon still in their original box in another area.
In that blue crate on the top you'll see I keep my portable systems. Below that is another accessory area with Wii pulled out as an example.
A closer look at some of the portables. Most of the newer systems I keep in travel cases like DS and PSP. Older systems unfortunately go naked as it were.
Here's a better look at the closet system with the spinning shelves in the middle. IMHO the unit was a pretty good fit.
Decorations include empty boxes at the top, a God of War poster (semi hidden), a Warcraft 3 poster, Everquest poster, and a very well hidden (in this shot) Smash Bros. poster. That's also a God of War 3 Pandora's box on top of the CD spinner.
Starting at the bottom left-hand corner of this shot and going up and to the right are some game systems including a CD-i, Amiga CD32, Nuon, FM Towns Marty, Neo Geo CD, CDX, Genesis 1 with CD 1 unit, a PC-FX, Panasonic Q (GameCube), Nintendo 64, Turbo Duo, Genesis 3, PSOne with LCD, Super A'Can, Super NES Mini, Master System 2, SuperGrafx, PlayStation, NES, and a Jaguar CD. I'll get to the other in another pic...
Here's a better look at the games on the right. Starting at the top that's CD-i, Super NES, and PlayStation 2 on the right spinning shelf.
The game on the top of the PS2 games is SMT Devil Summoner 2.
On the left that's more Super NES Games and more PS2 games...
...And more Super NES games and PS2 games. Beneath that Super NES is Virtual Boy and WonderSwan Color, and beneath the PS2 is Nuon.
Decorations on the top include another original Xbox display from EB and Mana Khemia 2 on the right.
Finishing these spinners up is Game Boy Advance and PSP games.
Decorations here include the pre-order bonus toy for Lunar Silver Star Story Complete. "Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in!!!"
Here's one more look at the systems on the right of the closet shelving. At the very top (beneath the NES and Jaguar CD) is a Genesis 2 with CD2 and 32X, two Super NES', a top-loader NES, Neo Geo CDZ, launch-day Xbox 360, Super Nova, another Amiga CD32, and another CD-i.
Looking at the games here, we start with game-related music CD's at the top and Genesis beneath it.
More Genesis...
...And more Genesis.
Finishing up with some GameCube.
One new addition to my game room is an old fashion SDTV so I can still play light gun games. Some old games just look better on an old TV, too.
Looking at the game systems, that's two Twin Famciom's (one broken, sigh), a Panasonic 3DO FZ-1, Panasonic FZ-10, and a Pippin.
A closer look at the games. That's Game Boy Color at the top left, then Game Boy, TurboGrafx-16, SuperGrafx, TurboGrafx-CD's, Super A'Can, and the Zodiac.
You may remember I kept all of my boxed controllers and such on a chest last time. Bad idea. The boxes stuck a little bit to the finish, so I decided to put them on this cabinet system instead. It's also much easier to get to the boxes now instead of having to dig for them sometimes.
Game systems include a Virtual Boy, JVC X'Eye, Pioneer LaserActive with the MegaLD pac, and an Atari 2600. That's an arcade board hiding behind those strategy guides on the right. Beneath that, well, lots of various controllers and stuff.
Here's a better look at the "nook" in the corner of the room.
Here's a better look at the systems. That's a few Master Systems and a lot of various plug & play dedicated consoles.
As for the games, that's Game.com at the top-left, then FM Towns, PC-FX, Jaguar CD, and Amiga CD32. Kinda hidden on the right there are my LaserActive games.
Last time I took a snap shot of this shelf it was PS2 and 3DO. I began running out of space for what's easily my most numerous collection, NES, so I decided to swap spots. That's NES boxed games, Famicom Disk games, and loose NES games.
Better look at my gaming set up. Not much has changed here other than the Mac Mini where I just edited all of these shots.
Beneath that is an Xbox 360 Elite with HD-DVD, PlayStation 3 60GB, and then a US & Japanese PS2 to the right as well as a Halo Edition Xbox.
A better look at some of the game systems to the right of the last pic. That's a US Dreamcast, Wii, GameCube, Japanese Dreamcast, Saturn 2 & 1, and a Neo Geo AES.
And finally, once again, where I'm typing this right now. Nothing new here... Same wall of boxes as before.
A pulled out view of my gaming rig area.
A better look at the boxed accessories to the left of the gaming rig.
Almost forgot that I do hide a few of the more unwieldy controllers behind those figurines and such.
Finally, that's where I keep my arcade boards.
And that's it.I hope you enjoyed taking a look at my game room.
As I've mentioned before, you can see a lot of this stuff every year at the Midwest Gaming Classic. We've got some really cool stuff planned for next year's museum area that may never again be feasibly possible, so I hope to see a lot of you there in March!
Later.

Imagine keeping every game you've ever owned since you were a kid...
... And that's basically it. I do spend a lot on games, no doubt, but I've also almost never traded in a game that I've owned. Trading games into a place like a GameStop is one of the biggest cons going. They give you a dollar in store credit and turn around and sell it for $10. Rather than trading a game in, look for it on sale, IMHO.
I've also collected a lot of this stuff after-the-fact. For example, I didn't own a 3DO game until the system was all but dead and being clearanced off. I ended up picking up the once $700 system for $150 shipped with 23 games.
Finally, it doesn't hurt to work for a large brick & mortar retailer with an awfully good discount.
This should be a very cool Midwest Gaming Classic museum this coming year! Everyone that did the museum last year like Dave, Tom, and of course Marty should be back again next year, and I've got some surprises in store this year that I may never be able to do again.
Later.
