Exclamation What would it take for you to want D2FX?

    Hey fellas. Just posing a question;

What would it take for you all to be interested in the show?

I've personally noticed a rather large lull in the downloads and subscribers as of late. No one is really downloading the show anymore and its been a very long time since we've seen an increase in subscriber numbers.

The only thing I can think of is that our show isn't weekly... I may be wrong on that though. The way the show is, it's impossible to bring out a weekly 30 minute episode. If you can give me some feedback as to why you've either stopped downloading or why you think we're in this rather large decline please do so. This feedback will largely affect how we move forward as a podcast.

I definitely don't want to stop doing the show, but if no one's listening to it, it's waaay too much work for us to make simply for the two of us to laugh at on our own. That's just plain sad.

Anyway, I hope we can fix this and I hope you all desire for the show to continue.

    ~Prime

    Sorry to hear it, man!

I'll speak for myself though, my interest has waned in most of the retroids podcasts in general, mainly just cause my gaming interests have shifted a lot more toward the StarCraft community. I still on occasion listen to our podcasts from here, but I typically switch between a couple SC podcasts and GiantBomb

I tried your podcast a few times. Personally I feel that it's rather silly, just saying.
I have 20 other Podcasts I listen to Daily and I have a lot of choice as to what to listen to and I just don't really like your Podcast, It doesnt give me the entertainment that other Podcasts do.

Better luck in finding a bigger audience, I suggest taking ideas from other Podcasts to give you an idea as to what people like.

Well I still listen but I don't listen to them right away mainly because it's not your typical gaming podcast and I don't feel I need to "keep up to date" with it. Because it's a running story or a standalone story I find I listen to them when I have time to focus purely on them. Regular shows I have no problem listening to when I'm doing other things.

I do have some ideas that could be the reason some people stopped listening though....but of course this is all assumption and hypothetic.

I think you're somewhat right in the reasoning it takes a while to get the shows out there...BUT I dont' think it's the length, it's the fact there sin't a set timeline. You guys kind of put them out there once they're done. SOme take a month...some longer. One thing I've learned from geing active in a gaming community is that gamers for the most part aren't patient people(look at every tuesday when PSN updates, if it doesn't update at a certain time people freak out) People tend to like a schedule. SO maybe if you guys were to release it monthly but give yourself deadlines that might help? Say each show would release on the first of the month? That way people would know when to check for a new episode. If things start to take too long people might forget and move onto somthing else.

Same could be said for the QTEs, they're great but same issue with the regular shows. There's no set schedule, people don't know when to refresh the show. I for example do all my downloading from my phone so they don't download automatically. For my regular shows on the day they release I'll go into itunes and see if the new show is there and get it.....if it's not there..I'll try the next day....but I can only do that because I know when each show releases. So take for example your latest QTE......I stopped looking for a new episode and I dind't even know there was one until you posted it in the shoutbox one day.

As for the actual content of the show, I've been a supporter of yours since day one and I think it's great but it's also extremely niche. If people don't get the references they'll be completely lost. Imagine watching something like Arrested Development but starting on season 3 episode 4....some people will still find it humorous....others will be wonder what the hell is going on and not bother to check out past episodes.

In reality I don't think you need to change the show really...just find a way to get the name out to more people....or maybe everything I just said makes no sense...but hey....it's all I can really think of at the moment.

if you were looking for a podcast like everyone elses. You chose poorly. If being popular means having to follow the same routine as everyone else we may as well quit now. 'Cause theres no way we're turning into another Giant Borecast. Thanks for the input tho, I appreciate it.

Thanks for your input Geoff, I know youre always gonna shoot straight with me.

I do agree its the sceduling, but we literally cannot promise a deadline for a number of various factors. I can't set aside specific days and time's to be at RayG's to record the show, and even when I'm able to his nephew is there a lot, which means not being able to record 'cos hes always hanging around us. I appreciate all you guys who record a show don't have to be in the same place, but since our show is different we have to be. Theres no way our show would work if i were using a crapass webcam mic and RayG was using his high-end condenser mic.

I don't mind if we don't get immediate feedback, i'm just bummed out cos we havent seen any growth as far as subscribers go in almost a year.

One thing I will say though is that from day 1 we aim to be unique. The integrity of the show and our creative freedoms demand we keep it that way. Even if the show dies a million deaths and we get 0 subscribers, we're never going to conform to how other podcasts are delivered. Theres nothing wrong with regular podcasts, we just don't think we're right for a regular show. Everything we do is a continuous ambition to go up and up, from the animations, articles to the podcast itself.

We always try to keep the show as univerally funny as we can, we don't want to segregate the audience to make the show niche... Even if the story itself is a continuation, you can bet your last dime we'll try and make it enjoyable for everyone.

Thanks again man, I appreciate your words.

Oh don't me wrong man. I understand the circumstances in which you guys record and it makes sense. As well I don't think anyone would expect or even want you guys to not be unique or change your ways.

I'm just giving the reasons above as possibilities why people may have fallen off. Take them with a grain of salt however, because like I said, I enjoy the shows and continue to listen so I can't give a direct answer since well.....I'm not someone who unsubscribed......so anything I said is based on pure hypothesis.

I will say though.....saying that you don't want to be another "borecast" or "comform to the ways other shows do their thing" isn't exactly sending a positive MSG to your fellow podcasters :P I know you said there's nothing wrong with regular podcasts but it comes off as a bit of a backhanded compliment. With any criticism you gotta take the good with the bad and then decide how you to apply it.

So say scheduling is the main reason people lost interest......maybe think about not releaseing a 30 min episode and do 15 minute episodes instead? Or move in together.....or ship his Nephew down to Australia

I don't know. Maybe some other people will chime in and you can get the ball rolling.

It certainly wasnt meant as a backhanded compliment. Regular shows have their place. I listen to regular shows ALL the time. I should have clarified. Not only do we not want to do a regular show, we quite probably COULDNT do one. we dont have the natural charisma of our peers in the podcasting community, thus th scripted stuff. When i said Giant Borecast, i literally meant Giant Bombcast. cos they seem to not have a clue what they're doing either. (Personal opinion of course, which can and was easily taken out of context).

I hope that clears that up, all of the shows on this network are usually top notch. Same with Sarcastic Gamer and N4G.

I don't so much like the idea Lynx mentioned of looking at what people like in other podcasts, as again what was said before, you guys are incredibly unique and niche, and that's both partially the genius and downfall of the podcast at the same time. I'm thinking about what's subconsciously going on in my head around listening to you guys' podcast...

It's certainly very entertaining to me when I listen, primarily as a goofy novelty listening experience. And then I come back to why I listen to the other podcasts on my ipod, across the board I think the main reason I gravitate towards them is to get current discussion of things going on in gaming. So I think I have to agree with Geoff's assessment that he views it as all part of a storyline, that I can just get to whenever I'd like, as there's no rush to make sure I hear everything relevant to the latest game I've been playing.

    Hope that helps...

I pretty much agree with Geoff here on all points. I think the schedule is a killer for people sorta drifting away, and I understand you are doing this as a sideline but I think once a month with a QTE in between would get it out there as something serious. In marketing the rule of thumb is you got to get people to see your stuff 7 times before they bite and become customers. Tell you the truth I never listened to your podcast till episode 4 or something, and it was more because I kept seeing you guys post stuff so i finally downloaded it.
