Default New Super NES Game - Nightmare Busters

Well, file this under "old" new game, anyway.

Back in December, Super Fighter Team announced the upcoming release of one of the first new Super NES games in over a decade, Nightmare Busters.

Unlike their Genesis ports Beggar Prince and Legend of Wukong, Nightmare Busters was an unreleased Super NES game developed by the French company Arcade Zone and set to be published by Sony Imagesoft. Unfortunately for Arcade Zone, Sony cut all ties with Nintendo just prior to the PlayStation's release, and without a publisher willing to invest in a game for the aged 16-bit console, the studio was shuttered.

Nightmare Busters has since been leaked as an incomplete ROM online. Typically, gamers have been impressed by the action/platformer's tough, Contra-like game play and excellent graphics; the latter of which should probably come as no surprise considering Arcade Zone is also responsible for the visually outstanding Legend on the Super NES.

Here's a look at the incomplete game:

Supposedly, Super Fighter Team is aiming to release some new information about the game next month, like how or if they are planning on finishing the game, as well as a better idea for when we can expect it. You'll eventually be able to read up on the details online at the official site, http://www.nightmarebusters.com.

Haha, check out the major resemblance this game has to Capcom's Midnight Wanderers:

That is pretty uncanny. I hardly played the game on the Capcom Collection, so I didn't recognize the similarities at first, but I can definitely see that resemblance now. The treasure chests, the way the character flips from one platform to another, the leprechaun-like characters, weapons... Heck, even the game play mechanics of the second boss are almost identical to the second boss in Nightmare Busters.

It still looks fun, though. And if the price isn't too outrageous, it might be a nice addition to the ol' game collection.

Yeah, it doesn't take away from the fact that I'm interested in the game, but it certainly piqued my curiosity. I did some digging behind just who developed both games and whether or not they shared any staff, but as far as I can tell, they do not.

In case you were interested, Super Fighter Team is taking a new batch of 600 pre-orders for Nightmare Busters. The original batch pre-sold out within just a few days.

    http://www.nightmarebusters.com/purchase.htm

The game will not be shipped until sometime next year, though I don't expect this latest batch of pre-orders to last very long.
