Finally some update on "Dragon's Crown"!

Denizens of the Blog of PlayStation,

You know how you’re really excited for something and then something happens and you get even more excited? Like that time you found out they were making a movie for The Hobbit and you were excited…but kinda bummed that Peter Jackson wouldn’t be directing it. But guess what happened: Peter Jackson announced that he *would* in fact direct it, and you got a heck of a lot more excited. Right?

Remember Dragon’s Crown, the next project from Vanillaware announced at last E3, a multiplayer action RPG with beautiful hand-drawn visuals slated to come to PS3 and PS Vita?

BREAKING NEWS: Atlus is taking over publishing duties in Japan and North America! What’s more, key (and very talented) members of the Atlus internal development team will be involved with the project as producer(s). You know, some of the people who’ve worked on games in the critically acclaimed Persona series. Yeah, we know: we’re stoked, too!

What does this mean for the game? For one, it means that it’s going to be better than ever. It will, however, come a bit later than originally expected, as it’s now slated for release in 2013.

When we took over the reins, we realized that a lot of the information made available to the public was ambitious and unfounded conjecture. The release timing, the pricing, and many of the features detailed for fans and members of the press were simply unknowable at the time they were disseminated (and frankly we were quite shocked to find out that many of the details were made public unbeknownst to even the developers).

It’s still way too early in development to be talking about specifics, but we can say that the game simply cannot retail for $29.99. We don’t know where that price point came from, but it is a logistical impossibility. We’re all gamers and we all wished it could be so, but it would have essentially destroyed any chance for profitability.

There’ll be plenty more news on the game in the coming months, and many questions that you’ll want answered. We promise that we’ll do our very best to answer them!

SUMMARY: Dragon’s Crown is still coming to PS3 and PS Vita, Atlus is bringing it (and helping to produce it), and it’ll hit North America in 2013.

    *lowers goggles*

    You may fire when ready.

I kinda expected that Ignition had some problems, so I'm actually glad that Atlus is publishing this game. The same can be said about the 2013 release.

I'm with you as much as I'm looking forward to this game. Good things will come to those who wait.

    Except for the price.

Here's to hoping for Cross-play of some sort and them continuing with the discount on the games if you buy both.

Nice to finally see something new for this. I must say it's looking more and more like a modern version of the old Capcom DnD brawlers... though that makes perfect sense given the dev team.

Looks like this is hitting the US in summer, $50 for the PS3 and $40 for the Vita. The bad news is that there is no cross buy or multiplayer. Whilst both will support 4 player co-op you can't mix the versions.

It's a shame to see the original idea of save sharing not making it but given the development hiccups this has run into I'm not surprised.

Atlus have updated their Dragon’s Crown website with the addition of new characters along with some multiplayer information. The home point of Dragon’s Crown is set in a town called Hideland, where you’ll be able to visit shops and group up for your upcoming adventure.
Here’s a look at key characters you’ll be meeting in Hideland:

    Princess Vivian

Princess Vivian first appears at the castle of Hideland. She’ll be requesting for your help in solving cases, it is still unknown as to how you’ll be helping her, but I have a feeling it’ll have to do with plenty of dungeon exploring.

    Guild Master Samuel

As his title implies, the bulky armored Samuel is the master of the town guild. He’ll be responsible in registering your name to the guild and providing quests.

    Lucain The Wizard

Lucain is found researching in an ancient tower. Known for his many achievements throughout his lifetime of being a great wizard, he now spends his days studying and providing adventurers with knowledge and hints.

The next two characters will be helping you explore the dangerous dungeons of Dragon’s Crown. They might not possess the strength to help you out in actual combat, but they will definitely help you out in dungeon runs with their useful skills.

    Loni The Thief

Loni is a talented lock picker, who’ll follow you through the depths of any dungeon. He will help by opening doors and treasure boxes, which you normally wouldn’t be able to on your own.

    Tiki The Fairy

Tiki is a fairy helper, who will help guiding you with directions to help navigate your way around dungeons.

Multiplayer will have up to four players in a dungeon at a time. Co-op mode can be played through Ad-hoc on PlayStation Vita or through a party of players on the PlayStation 3. Data sharing between the two devices will also be possible, so you can play Dragon’s Crown on the big screen and also on the go.

Both the PlayStation 3 and Vita will have online play, where players can be matched up with other players within a certain level range. Unfortunately, there won’t be a cross-platform multiplayer feature, but data-sharing is possible.

At least we get the Cross-Save feature and that we can play co-op online. Too bad about the Cross-Play or Cross-Buy not being made for this game, so it looks like I'll grab both of them when they're available in... *realize that there's no mention of an European release*

You know what... I haven't heard any news of an European-release and I'm a bit worried it's going to be another "Persona 4 Arena"-clusterf***...

Today, IGN can confirm that Dragon’s Crown – the long-awaited PS3 and Vita action-RPG from Vanillaware – is coming out in North America on August 6, 2013. Coincidentally, this is the exact release date for the game we revealed back in March through an anonymous source. There’s no word yet on its release date in Europe.
