The ui is a bit jarring after the clean clean lines of the skyrim menus. So far I'm not seeing much at all different from fable, even the ranged combat works the same. I was sort of rushing though.
I downloaded the demo last night but haven't played it yet. After seeing some videos of the game on Giantbomb my interest on the game went from I have no idea what this is to It looks kind of cool and I'll have to check it out.

Played the demo last night and I will be picking it up for sure... I need more good RPGs in my gaming diet.

I've been getting more and more interested every time something new pops up on this game, and the demo sealed the deal. I'm ready for this game to drop right now.
I know it's too much to ask, but if the Amalur MMO could be anything like this combat-wise I'd probably never get up from the computer. Give me WoW that is actually engaging to play and you can have all my money.
Currently into: 15th century villages, poutine, and holding onto a play off spot
I finally got around to playing this and I think I'm going to do the same thing as Terry, wait for a drop in price to around $40. I kept getting a Dungeon Siege 3 feeling while playing the demo which I wasn't all that enthralled about after playing the game but I was hyped for it as much as I was for Reckoning because of the cool combat videos that are highlighted by the developers.
"Hello, commander. In light of the recent extraterrestrial incursion, this council of nations has convened to approve the activation of the DownToForit XCOM project. You have been chosen to lead this initiative; to oversee our first, and last, line of defence. Your efforts will have considerable influence on this planet's future. We urge you to keep that in mind as you proceed... Good luck, commander." Follow us on twitter @downtoforitx
Played more today and paid attention and the demo has grown more on me. I loved fable so not really a knock necessarily I just hope the scope of the world is much bigger than fable. One thing, as soon as I met hughes the audio goes buggy and then it shoots through all the dialogue choices so I can't tell what's going on. I'm downloading the PC demo to see if it's more stable. Dudes track record on PS3 is terrible.
I doubt you'll have any problems with the size of this game. R.A. Salvatore has supposedly created 10,000 years of history surrounding Amalur, and they've claimed that Dev speed-runs in which they do everything there is to do push 200 hours. Granted, that's all out of their mouths, so take that for what it is, but even with inflated numbers that sounds to be awfully deep.
If at all possible, I would stay away from the PS3. I played both the 360 and the PS3 demos, and the framerate on PS3 was horrendous. I've experienced a few bugs, and I've heard that the game has some bugs - but 360 or PC are starting to sound like the better choice in that department. 360 also seems to be a bit more stable than PC.Dudes track record on PS3 is terrible.
I tried the 360 demo and it was super glitchy. They ranged from weird graphical stuff, with polygons stretching off to forever, through to seriously annoying when my attack buttons decided to stop working, casting a spell fixed that one though.
Bugs aside I thought the game was pretty fun but something about it felt off. I think it was the camera as it always felt too close and low to the ground so I could never fully see what I wanted. Can't say I'll be rushing out to get it but I could see picking it up on the cheap later.
