As crowded as this was, once again MGC needs another day...and to go back to Oconowomoc.

Hehe, I haven't heard the Oconomowoc comment in a while. Seriously, the Sheraton really does grant us about twice the amount of available floor space than what the Olympia allowed for.

I think that people get a little bit hung up on the size of the main room at the Olympia versus the Sheraton. The Sheraton is a bit smaller in size for just that one big room, but the Olympia didn't have as many available rooms with as much total square footage. Plus the Sheraton has been great about allowing us to use every square inch of the floor like the restaurant, lobby, hallways, and more.

Crowds were certainly up, but we also had a lot more stuff like pins & arcades spread throughout the hotel this year adding to some congestion in spots we never had before, such as the linking hallway between the museum and the rest of the show. We'll discuss this a lot I think in the coming weeks. I know we'd all love to move into a giant convention center, but keep in mind that with the amount of electricity we pull, those convention centers can cost us about 5 times the amount we spend now.

Finally, there are a lot of issues with tacking on an additional day. For one the rooms we rent are much more expensive during the week than they are over weekends. Second, we already run into issues with some of our organizers having trouble getting away from their day jobs and/or school to work week days preparing the show.

It is pretty amazing to see how far the show has come in both size and production values, but remember that the MGC is still put on by a bunch of folks that still have their day jobs at the office, the schools, the plants, the stores, or what have you. I think that growing the show further is still very possible, but please have some patience as we save for even bigger and better things!

    Later.
