Real gamers are fanboys of games... not consoles // TT: Fear not sans genitalia fairy!
Interactive Distractions, So many games... so little time
I remember playing that game and loving the **** out of it on PS1. I really have been wanting to go back to it.

So I just listened to this episode yesterday. I'm glad someone mentioned The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky. I personally consider it the best RPG ever. It's just such a love letter to fans of JRPGs. This is a very clear example that the makers put lots of love in this game, and didn't compromise to appeal to the stockholders or something like that. They made what they wanted, and just poured their hearts into it.
I mean you have little things added in such as in town you can walk up to birds and they'll fly off the screen, shadows/sprites in the game change depending on how close you are to a light source, and stuff like having a cat dictionary. The game literately created a dictionary for what all the cats say in the game.
The side quests in the game are a blast to do, and just add to the game. The aforementioned cat dictionary is actually a side quest. And then you have little things such as helping this little kid find something he lost in the first town, and some towns later he appears briefly and talks to you like old friends.
The gameplay is actually a mixture of Lunar combat, with the FF10 turn system. This is a game that usually has you just as strong as the enemy. There's never really a moment where you feel underpowered or overpowered. It feels fair, and usually your deaths are because you didn't reconfigure your magic (very similar to FF7) to take on the new enemy.
This is also probably the only RPG where every NPC has a name. You're not talking to Thug a or Thug b during cutscenes. You're talking to Thug Mel or Thug Richards.
I just can't gush about this game strongly enough. I'm just so strongly impressed by this game that it's not a contest when comparing this to other RPGs. After playing it all the way through I just hold it in such high esteem.
Lol yeah. I'm on episode 115 right now.
