2nd Annual Art Gallery Exhibition of Video Game Trading Cards

    Video game celebrities and fans from all over the U.S. made their way to Fairfield, Iowa for the 2nd Annual Art Gallery Exhibition at the ICON Gallery in Fairfield, Iowa, August 1-10, 2014, which featured nearly 1,000 colorful Video Game Trading Cards & Posters to commemorate the history of the global video game culture.

    Many started out on Friday, August 1st for the official opening of the art gallery exhibition and a meet & greet at the ICON Gallery. The big event day was Saturday, August 2nd which featured the grand reception at the gallery and later an award ceremony followed by a film festival at the Sondheim Center for the Performing Arts just down the street. Walter Day, founder of Twin Galaxies and creator of the Twin Galaxies video game trading cards was in attendance as well as Billy Mitchell (video game player of the century), Tim McVey (first billion points on a video game), Fairfield Mayor Ed Malloy, the official Pac-Man (Namco), and many others.

    The ICON Gallery walls were filled with video game trading cards and award plaques. Featured video game celebrities had the opportunity to sign their cards and offer them up for free to attendees. The award ceremonies celebrated high score champions, journalists, media personalities and more.

    On Sunday, August 3rd, there was a recreation of a famous LIFE magazine photograph from 1982, depicting gamers posing along with a lineup of arcade games on the same street as the original Twin Galaxies arcade.

    The Twin Galaxies Video Game Trading Card Set was created to commemorate the history of the global video game culture, honoring the iconic industry pioneers, the video game personalities, the world champions & contest winners and the landmark events and historic milestones.

    The art gallery exhibition was funded through contributions from Eric Tessler, of LaHabra, CA. Mr. Tessler is an acclaimed member of the arcade restoration community in California and is a distinguished supporter of video game cinema. He is the Executive Producer of two video game documentary films slated for release in 2013-2014. They are The King of Arcades (Directed by Sean & Krystle Tiedeman) and The Video Craze (Directed by Dave Danzara).
